Bill Warren,
Mike Tarr, Leslie
Kaelbling and Andrew Duchon
wrote and received a grant from the National Science Foundation's Learning
in Intelligent Systems program to investigate the role of visual
information in developing spatial representations. This work will try to
combine ideas from the navigation literature of bees, rats, humans, and
robots, and investigate these ideas using virtual reality: tracking people
in a large room as they view the area through a head-mounted display.
We will be using Sense8 software running
on an SGI Onyx2 to display the images
on a Kaiser ProView 80 HMD while tracking the observer with InterSense's
IS-900.
