The Department of Cognitive & Linguistic Sciences at Brown offers Ph.D. programs in Cognitive Science and Linguistics and undergraduate concentrations in Cognitive Science, Linguistics, and Cognitive Neuroscience.

There are no specific requirements for admission to the graduate program other than the GRE: General test. We have accepted students from a diverse range of training programs and with very different research backgrounds. Submission of an original writing sample with an application is recommended.

Admission to the graduate program is highly selective, and based largely on the applicant's academic accomplishments, references, and academic interests. Normally, only students aiming for a Ph.D. are admitted. We cannot make judgments regarding the probability of being admitted before you have applied.

Our admission decisions are based on the complete application, which is considered by multiple members of the faculty.

Students accepted into the graduate programs normally receive financial support for four years. See the Brown Graduate School web pages for more information about the applications process, including financial aid, English proficiency rules, etc.
